Sounds of Soul : Indites : Series 14 : Food delivery men
What do they go through?
They fear to work in the pandemic, but poverty makes them to.
Their families need food too, they are responsible to feed them.
They have aged parents and children at home, yet risk their lives visiting various people.
Incorrect locations make them roam a lot.
Even a day's salary is most important for them to survive.
They get wounded by every disrespect.
What are their requests?
You could understand if the delivery is a bit delayed.
You could come downstairs and receive the food, if you can.
You could notify if you're covid positive and mutually follow necessary steps.
How people ill-treat them?
Covid positive person: If you don't give food in my hands, I'll spread corona to you.
Usage of abusive words
Making them climb floors, wantedly.
Making them wait for a long time to give the money.
Asking for e-pass and wasting their time.
What should abusers know?
Delivery men have their own self-respect.
Many are students looking forward to the next levels.
Many are undergraduates and postgraduates, better qualified than you.
Many were IT employees, laid off.
They do have alternate jobs and are part-time workers.
They have their own identity.
Note:
They CAN talk back and respond to your unethical acts. It's just that, they respect their uniform, salary and most importantly... themselves more.
You pay for your food. They get paid for delivering you food and that's it. You have no right to abuse them.
Treat them respectfully.
You know... There are good people who:
Tell them to be safe.
Say 'Thanks', while receiving the food.
Ask them if they need water.
Express gratitude for being a helping hand in the pandemic.
What can all of us do?
Let's be extra careful, while receiving food, in restricted areas.
Let's not get annoyed if the delivery is late.
Let's not make them climb floors, instead we can go downstairs.
Let's not make them wait for long.
Let's ensure safety.
Let's spare half a minute to give ratings.
Guys! Isn't Covid a best humanity teacher? Are the happenings and lessons so far, yet insufficient to still witness lack of humanity?
